Transitioning from 2020 to 2026

See what changed between our 2020 and 2026 programs; take a look at the narrative and spreadsheet for a side-by-side comparison of the two:

Starting in April of 2026 projects can submit new prebuild applications to the 2026 Green Communities Criteria. Between April and the end of September, feel free to choose whether you would like to submit a prebuild application with the 2020 or 2026 Criteria.  Starting October 1st, we’ll retire the 2020 Criteria from use with new prebuild applications; all first time prebuild submittals from that day forward will only be accepted with the 2026 Criteria. Any project that does submit a prebuild application with the 2020 Criteria will continue to use that version of the Green Communities Criteria, regardless of its construction schedule – you won’t need to switch versions for postbuild.  However, if you would like, starting this April, any project using the 2020 Criteria may choose to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of a 2026, rather than 2020, criterion. To document this, please submit a waiver request via the application portal. Such requests will be automatically approved, assuming a proper use case. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our team at [email protected]

We look forward to working with you to certify your properties to this new best-in-class standard for healthy, safe, cost-effective affordable housing!
