San Francisco Green Communities

The Mayor's Office of Housing (MOH), the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) and Enterprise have joined forces to invest at least $100 million worth of incentives to build 600 new homes in San Francisco that promote health, conserve energy and natural resources, and provide easy access to jobs, schools and services.

San Francisco Green Communities brings $60 million in equity from the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, $40 million in predevelopment and site acquisition loans and other financing and $300,000 in grants to developers building affordable rental and for-sale housing across the city. This is part of the national Green Communities initiative, a five-year, $555 million commitment to build more than 8,500 environmentally responsive affordable homes.

The San Francisco Green Communities partnering organizations selected six developments to participate in a demonstration phase. Each development receives a planning and/or construction grant of up to $50,000 from Enterprise to help maximize the integration of green building strategies into the development. Enterprise also provided funds to monitor the impact of all of the San Francisco Green Communities projects and share the lessons learned with other organizations interested in green affordable housing development.
