Efficient Irrigation

Two underground 10,000-gallon storm water tanks capture water from roof drains, keeping it from flowing into the city's storm-water management system. And a portion of the captured storm water is reused to irrigate the planters in the plaza.

Water-Conserving Fixtures

At Trolley Square, low-flow shower heads and faucets not only greatly reduce the amount of water used, but also the amount of water that must be heated – which translates to energy savings. All toilets are water-saving dual-flush models. They offer the standard 1.6 gallon flush as well as a smaller 0.8 gallon per-flush option.

Criteria Four: Water Conservation

Water-efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures conserve fresh water resources and reduce utility bills. It is also possible to conserve water by designing landscapes and irrigation systems that require little drinkable water and harvest rainwater and storm water run-off when irrigation is necessary. Trolley Square conserves water in outdoor common areas as well as in the individual residential units. It boasts an effective irrigation system in the plaza and water-conserving fixtures throughout the building.
